ASSOCIATE SPOTLIGHTS:

Chloe Garcia

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m not one to talk about myself so this question is really hard. I would describe myself as always humble, appreciative of the little things, hard-working, goal oriented and always ready for an adventure.

How long have you worked for Emser?
It will be 8 years in October!

What do you like the most about working for Emser?
Your voice matters in this company. I’ve always felt the support behind my goals. They want you to succeed and it shows.

What work accomplishments are you most proud of?
My current role has opened so many doors. I’m proud that I show up for my team and have been a part of new record-breaking months for Austin.

What motivates you?
My two boys are my biggest motivation for everything I do in life. I am a mother first and building a future for my boys is the reason for every move I make in life. I will continue to show them every day the benefits of hard work and focus.

What advice do you have for others on your team?
Communication is important. Share your goals, there is a big support team behind you if you are willing.

What do you like to do in your spare time? Any hobbies, etc.?
I try and fill my extra time with rest, self-care, day trips with my boys to explore our city, plant shopping, working in my garden, exploring new mediums of art, painting, and needle work.

Favorite meal? Book? Movie? Show? Music?
Tequila is my favorite meal 😉 and Friends is always on in the background somewhere in my house.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I have 18 years of experience in the tile industry. In fact, my professional career has only been in tile. I love that tile is tangible and that the outcome is beautiful. When I go on vacations, half of my photos are of the tiles I see.
I graduated from Florida International University with a BA in International Business and MBA from Nova Southeastern University. Most of my professional career has focused on business development and building relationships in the A&D world, especially in the South Florida market.
Now, my work and personal life have merged in some ways so that my clients are also some of my best friends. I’m passionate about what I do and enjoy what I do. I don’t just want to be your vendor but rather a valued and contributing member of the design community where I live and work.

How long have you worked for Emser?
Six and a half years!

What do you like the most about working for Emser?
Emser allows you to take ownership over your territory. When I was first hired my market was largely undeveloped, and they gave me a lot of trust to develop business. When they started seeing the results, they added support.
I love that they gave me that trust and confidence to put all my ideas into practice. It’s a big company with a small family side. People know your name, and more they are kind and empathetic, rather than just being a number.

What motivates you?
I have three daughters and I want to be an example for them. I want them to know you can be a smart businesswoman, educated and accomplished – and still have a beautiful healthy balance of work and personal life.

What advice do you have for others on your team?
In my experience with Emser one of the things I recommend is to connect with your team, especially if you’re working remote or not in the branch each day. Pick up the phone and talk to your branch, or even others in different locations who are doing similar jobs to your own. I have a few people from other markets across the country who I talk with weekly. We are all sharing similar challenges and opportunities, and we can all learn from each other.

What do you like to do in your spare time? Any hobbies, etc.?
I collect exotic orchids – they hang from five trees in my yard. Currently I have 50!

Samantha Starzyk
Outside Sales Representative, Homebuilder

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m married to my husband Jamie and have a seven-year-old son who is the light of my life. And a new puppy named Bella! I love participating and watching sports. I’m a Duke fan – and Packers, too. I’m from Wisconsin originally have been in Cleveland since 2006.

How long have you worked for Emser?
I have worked at Emser for seven years but was a customer long before working here.

What do you like the most about working for Emser?
I would say, first the comradery amongst people, in the branch and corporately. Also, I believe in what we do and how we got to market. And third, that there are no ‘secrets’. We are given the information ‘as is’, so we can make decisions appropriate for our markets and to have honest conversations with our customers.

What work accomplishments are you most proud of?
The relationships I have made are really my biggest accomplishment, but if I had to pick one specifically, it would be the Rookie of the Year for Builder Sales Rep in 2015. I was super surprised to have been awarded and gave me the true feeling I was on the right path.

What drives you, motivates you?
My family – first and foremost. Also, my reputation and morals are huge motivators for me.

Do you have or have you had a mentor? Who? How did they impact you?
I have had many along the way. Each have made me the person I am today both personally and professionally.

What advice do you have for others on your team?
GRAB A PARTNER – there is always someone that is or has gone through what you are going through or trying to do. Don’t be on an island or you will not survive.

What do you like to do in your spare time? Any hobbies, etc.?
I love to hike with my family and anything where we can be outside.

Favorite movie? Music?
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation! And Alternative, like Morrisey, The Smiths and Postal Service.
